Two Southern captains face off in the battle of the bluefin tuna, while one Northern boat hauls in the biggest fish of the season in North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

Captain TJ Ott and the crew of Hot Tuna steam out of Wanchese Harbor before dawn hoping to hook up to a monster tuna. With only one other catch under their belts so far, bills mounting and the season’s end in sight, the Hot Tuna is desperate for another catch. Local rivals Charlie Griffin, captain of family-operated Reels of Fortune, and Greg Mayer of Fishin’ Frenzy, remain neck -and-neck in the top spots with a wide margin above the rest of the fleet, providing plenty of inspiration for TJ and his crew to get some blood on their decks. Just when fleeting hope seemed to draw the wind from their sails, the Hot Tuna hooks up with one serious keeper, a nine-foot 623 pound butterball of fatty tuna. This catch could be the redemption they need to pull them through the rest of this season with some dignity.

Keep up with next week’s catches on  Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks: Burn Blubber, Sunday at 9/8c.
